MURRAY PARK, SPRINGS, GAUTENG
Role: Landscape Achitects | Year: 2017 | Location: Springs, Gauteng
Murray Park was a large, delapidated park in Springs, Ekurhuleni. We were tasked with providing various amenities such as braai facilities, playgrounds, and ablutions. We created three different sizes of braai units, to cater for small to large groups of people.
An old Guggi Style roof structure in the park inspired atomic-age playgrounds. Each playground caters for various age groups. We ensured that the playgrounds are inclusive, with roundabouts, swings, a roller slide, and water tables catering for handicapped children.
The 0-3 year old playground has water tables, a sandpit, small trampolines, a small roundabout and sound pipes. The playground was designed in the shape of an atom.
The putt-putt course was designed with South African conditions in mind. It had to be easy to construct, vandalproof, low maintenance, and yet still fulfil its purpose as a challenging but fun course (photos to follow soon).
This design was done while working for Habitat Landscape Architects.
